Nairobi+30 Conference 2015

Grace Okonji represented the Africa Gender and Development Evaluators Network (AGDEN) at the Nairobi+30 Conference whose theme was “Making Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Development a Reality For Women in Africa” The Nairobi conference held on 14th and 15th August was attended by African gender ministers, scholars and campaigner to commemorate 30 years since Kenya hosted the 3rd global conference on women in 1985.

The conference was officially opened by H.E. the President of the Republic of Kenya who challenged women to use their strength in numbers and voting power to boost gender equality.
In a joint communiqué, the delegation from Kenya, Mexico, Denmark and China who have previously hosted the women conferences, said great achievements have been recorded since the adoption of the Beijing declaration. “Countries have made important advances to realize women’s rights on issues such as girl’s education, women’s labour market participation and women political participation.
