Membership 

The Africa Gender and Development Evaluators Network (AGDEN), currently composed of 83 active members representing 23 countries mostly in Africa, but also including representatives from the United Kingdom, USA and Canada, is a bilingual network, with  French - and English-speaking members. Members are admitted development practitioners who posses a set of qualifications including relevant training and experience in gender, human rights development and measurement, monitoring and/or evaluation.

The Africa Gender and Development Evaluators Network (AGDEN) is a membership organization currently composed of 50 members representing 23 countries mostly in Africa, but also including representatives from the United Kingdom, and Canada. It is a bilingual network, with French - and English-speaking members.   

Individuals who posses a set of qualifications including relevant training and experience in gender, development and measurement, monitoring and/or evaluation and human rights are admitted into the Network.
 
To be a core AGDEN member, the following requirements apply:
  • Practitioner with a university-level qualification, good grounding and experience in gender with specialisation in one or more sectors.
  • Solid Knowledge of development theories and practices
  • Significant experience in Monitoring and Evaluation in conducting evaluations, developing M&E systems, theory development and/or M&E training.
AGDEN encourages men to apply and seeks representation from different parts of Africa.
 
AGDEN Activities
AGDEN offers:
Training Workshops in the following areas: 
  1. Rights Based M&E
  2. Participatory M&E
  3. Gender & Development for M&E
  4. Gender Equality & Aid Effectiveness - The Paris Declaration.  
  • Public discussion fora (i.e Roundtables) on the roles and responsibilities of M&E practitioners in policy making and policy implementation.
  • Commissioned evaluation through open bidding.
  • Training materials/development for engendering monitoring and evaluation.
  • A bi-monthly e-newsletter
  • A member list serve which hosts periodic e-discussions on topical issues and updates members weekly on international M&E issues.
  • A database of members as well as M&E resources
Benefits of Membership
The Network facilitates sharing of information, knowledge and evaluation resources such as evaluation tools and methodologies in the implementation of gender sensitive evaluation across the African continent. The Network hosts regular capacity development workshops for its members and requires the full participation of the core members at AGDEN meetings and events.
AGDEN  facilitates members’ attendance and participation at key continental M&E events such as the AfrEA bi-annual conferences and the IDEAS-International General Assemblies.

AGDEN strives to influence policy that guides evaluation practice in the member countries, Africa region and on a global platform, with the aim that gender and human rights are considered in the evaluation of global initiatives.
